Blog Post #1

I chose to look at Mrs. Gilberts third grade blog post. The post was used in the classroom through interaction with other students via the web. The students were also able to use this as a resource in order to see what books would be used for this year’s battle of the books. The audience that the teacher is trying to reach is her third grade students. The blog seems to serve as a way for the teacher to inform the students about what is going on and also to communicate with them when they are not in school. The blog seems to be used for announcements instead of a device to be used from day to day, and has not been updated since this summer. I think this tool is very inventive and is a good way to communicate with others. This tool has the potential to be used out of the classroom if the teacher regularly gives the students an assignment to do while at home. I think it can be beneficial to the teacher as well as the students.

I lke the idea that the teacher posted the book list on the blog i think that would be very helpful to the student as well as there parents if they were trying to jumpstart their reading before the school year started i was also glad to hear that the blog was still active.

I assume parents have a million papers to keep up with, and relying on one's child to help may not work out. I think having a blog which lists the books a child should (or could) read is a great way to reduce paper and keep something in one spot.

Then again, for parents who do not have easy internet access, this could be frustrating.

It is a great blog. I like that she gets the students involved with blogging. I hope Ms. Gilbert has a new blog site for the 2008-09school year!

I like that teachers are introducing blogs in the third grade. I think it is always easier to learn a new technology as early on in life as possible. I probably would have enjoyed that the blog featured a book list. My mom is a librarian so reading was always a big deal in my family.
